This national survey assessed institutional adherence to best practices when performing ultrasound-guided peripheral intravenous (US-PIV) placements, paying close attention to the use of sterile gel and probe covers. The findings indicate a mixed landscape regarding compliance; while nearly half of the surveyed institutions were already following CDC guidelines by using sterile gel for these percutaneous procedures, there remains a notable gap in practice. Specifically, many facilities are still not utilizing protective covers or appropriate sterile gels during US-PIV placements. Overall, the data suggests that despite some improvements driven by recent recommendations, systemic adherence to all recommended components of aseptic technique is lacking.
